Impact 2023

It’s been an eventful year, 2023!

This is our fifth year as a community that focuses to empower Indonesian women (especially mothers) through literacy.

In 2023, as a community, we grew our audience to 40,000+ on Instagram (@bbbbookclub). Members of BBB BFF (Buibu Baca Buku Best Friend and Family) also increased to 1,700+ members, and we made a WhatsApp Community Group that serves as communication channels to spread information about our activities. By the end of 2023, we have 430+ members in the community group.

We also recruited 14 new volunteers, and expanded the team to 28 personnel in total.

Another thing that deserves a highlight was we started to include climate literacy topics on BBB activities as our way to participate in climate action.

Activities and Impact

In 2023, just like how it was in the previous year, we ran programs line with our mission.

Digital Contents

In 2023, we shared 340+ posts on Instagram (@bbbbookclub). Each post, on average, has reached 2,100 accounts or 190,000+ accounts reached in total. 69% of our posts are book recommendations from different genre to encourage our audience to read more diverse books.

We also provided downloadable freebies for our audience. In 2023, we made a printable sticker sheet, bookmarks, and reading companion templates to track reading activities. The freebies were downloaded 1,000+ times.

The freebies can be accessed here

Events and Discussions

Our events and discussion were held based on our models. Some events and discussion focused more on the extensification (awareness and quantity) while others focused more on literacy quality and critical thinking.

In 2023, we managed to do 33 discussions (via Zoom (21), IG Live (9), and offline meeting (3)) with total participants of 1,500+.

After each of the activities, we measured our audience’s feedback through direct surveys. Here are the scores based on sums of 260+ people who filled our survey activities.

Competition

As we mentioned earlier, in 2023, we started to include climate literacy topics in our activities as our way to participate in taking climate action. Through July to September last year, we organized a book review competition and discussion series; “Conversation on Climate and Energy Transition”.

Book review competition

For the competition, we invited our audience to review any books from a climate perspective on Instagram. Participants can choose to use photo and video (reels) format. Each week, we chose a weekly winner (9 winners in total) and 4 final winners (2 for each category).

At the end of the competition period, we had 146 participants. From these participants, we measured our impact through form submissions.

Discussion Series

We held 7 discussions (via zoom (6) and offline workshop (1)) and garnered 250 participants in total. We were very grateful for our partners and collaborators who made this discussion series happen!

As per usual, we also measured our impact by doing direct surveys. Here are the scores based on the sum of 196 participants who did the survey.

In total, during the competition, there were 200+ social media posts talking about climate and energy transition through different lenses, with 13,000+ likes (cumulative of participants’ posts and BBB Book Club’s posts).

Looking at what we found from our pilot climate program, and the awareness that climate crisis and energy transition are such an inevitable part of our life, we’re planning to continue this conversation too, in the upcoming years.

Reading Challenge

Just like a tradition, in 2023, we started and ended the year with Reading Challenge and Reading Challenge Wrap-Up. Not only that, we also made a Reading Challenge Halfway Checkpoint that we launched in July.

Reading Challenge 2023

We shared the template in the last year of 2022. We were very grateful for our audience who had downloaded, filled, and tagged us when using the template to start their new reading year. For the record, we asked our audience to fill out a Reading Challenge form and got 628 responses.

Reading Challenge Halfway Checkpoint

This template was meant to help our audience review their reading journey in the first half of 2023. We also partnered up with Botanina to give appreciation to 4 of our audience who tag us when using the template.

Reading Challenge Wrap-Up 2023

At the end of the year, we encouraged our audience to look back and evaluate their reading journey by sharing a Bookish Yearbook template. The templates were downloaded 700+ times and were also shared by participants through IG stories.

To measure the impact, we asked our participants through a survey in the Wrap-Up form. Here are the scores from the sum of 187 participants who filled out the form.

Collaboration

Throughout 2023, we collaborate with ~50 partners, adding up the long list to 100+ partners we’ve collaborated with.

Some of them are Gramedia Pustaka Utama, Penguin Random House Sea, KPG, Haru, Mai, Bentang Pustaka, Buku Mee, Transit Bookstore, Ubud Readers Writers Festival, pestaliterasi.id, Indika Foundation, Uni Eropa, Urban Women Book Club, Read Aloud Jakarta Barat, Komunitas Salihara, Goethe Institut, Ibu Punya Mimpi, Peri Bumi, Lab Belajar Ilmu, Sustaination, Cleanomic, Botanina, Pibo, Wellbeing Journey, Gemar Rapi, and many more.
